Welcome 2024
Well here we are. 2024. Leap year. Olympics. Presidential election. Yeah, lots going on. But for us, seems like it’s setting up to be another strong year in the franchising world. Still a lot of churn in the marketplace and the employment scene. And still lots of people unsure of their future who would like to grab control.
If you are one of those people, or may have started to think about this during the holiday break, there is a lot to consider.
“Should I start a business?”
“If I do, should I go the start-up path, buy an existing business, or buy a franchise?”
“What businesses are going to grow and are resistant to downturns?”
“How much does it really cost to start a business?”
“Where do I even begin?”
It’s a process. So here are some thoughts that may help:
Starting a business is a big deal. Take your time. Resist impulse. Don’t quit your job just yet. Start to read all about it. Magazines, blogs, websites, books.
Ask many people, but trust just a few. Seems everybody is an expert. But few have actually done it. Far fewer have even taken a deep dive in considering it. You will have people who will be overly enthusiastic because they really want you to succeed and don’t want to hurt your feelings by shutting down your dream. Then there are those who will discourage you because they are basically risky-adverse and shudder at the thought of anybody taking the big leap. Plus, they are jealous. So find a few trusted, knowledgeable advisors who can guide you and tell you what you NEED to hear not what you WANT to hear.
Talk to business owners. Tradespeople, merchants, professionals etc. Don’t start by asking “how’s business?” Start by asking “how did you decide to go into business by yourself?” and take it from there.
Finally, if franchising is something you are curious about, or you know little about and want to learn more before you dismiss out-of-hand, feel free to contact us. We don’t charge. We will even send you our free 65 page eBook “Franchising? Who Me?” which lays out the 25 questions you need to ask yourself to decide if franchising may be worth a deeper look.
